Welte Orchestrion Style 2 For Sale
It is indeed a rare and special event when a restored Welte Orchestrion comes up for sale! The Welte was the orchestrion of choice for the social register millionaire mansions of the Guilded Age and the palaces of kings. For example, they were in the homes of the Vanderbilts, the Mellons, the Fricks, on the Gould yacht, in the summer palace of the King of Romania, and in the palace in China’s forbidden city where one like this was enjoyed by the Empress! This Style 2 Welte Orchestrion has been beautifully restored. It has an elegant Oak cabinet with richly decorated glass and a beautiful roll frame that looks like it was designed by Jules Verne! It is full of orchestral pipework including a sunburst of brass trumpets. Percussion includes a base drum with tympani effect, cymbal, triangle, and snare drum. It comes with a library of 69 rolls. It has a jeweled “wonder light”. Note the 38 flute pipes, 38 violin pipes, orchestra bells, bass drum, snare drum, and triangle. The unique six roll changer playing Wurlitzer APP rolls is an example of outstanding engineering.

The Seeburg G Orchestrion is a favorite and elusive treasure for mechanical music enthusiasts and is considered to be the definitive American Orchestrion. One is now available that is similar to the one shown above. Like the one above, it has the beautiful torch art glass. The Seeburg G has been recently restored. The interior consists of violin pipes, flute pipes, piano with mandolin effect, bass drum with tympani effect, snare drum, triangle and cymbal. It plays the “G” roll and three are included. In the 1920’s Western Electric Piano Company was known for outstanding coin pianos in both looks and design. Made during the era of Prohibition, most are keyboardless instruments. On the piano plate it says Seltzer Music Company and has a Seltzer name plate. It has survived the years in very nice condition. It is the only Artizan Air Calio to have bells. It was originally purchased by Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh, Pa. It was then acquired by famous Givens collection.
